I think you're onto something. I,too, have noticed a different "feel" to the bike. Granted I don't ride as far as ou every day, but I still try to ride as much as possible. Lately, I've taken to riding my Savage almost exclusively (I also have a Honda Rebel 450). In a recent posting, I questioned the vibrations above 50-55 mph on a Savage and was told that a big single will, by its very nature, have more vibration than a 450 twin. So I've decided to really get a "feel" for the Savage. Just today, I had it up around 60 mph and all I could feel was the rhythmic thump of the engine. Other days, I've felt that, as you put it, the engine would "explode" at similar speeds. Same road, same bike, same rider — different days, different times! Go figure.
